It is surrounded by Herricks and the village of Williston Park on the south.

The area was first settled in 1644 and later became the site of a farm and gristmill started by Townsend Albertson, whom the neighborhood is named after. Suburbanization began in 1946 with a modest development by William Levitt, the same developer of Levittown, and carried on until the mid-1960s, when the last farms were converted into residential homes.

Located approximately 20 miles east of Manhattan, New York City, Albertson today is a suburban community with a diverse real estate market offering a wide variety of options for potential buyers and renters. The area comprises three of North Hempstead Town’s parks and recreational facilities. The Albertson Triangle is a lovely and refreshing green space between commercial intersections, with a gazebo and town sign welcoming travelers to the community.

The areas west of Willis Avenue are served by the Herricks Union Free School District, which has five public schools. The areas east of Willis Avenue, generally south of Oxford and Princeton Streets, are served by the Mineola Union Free School District. One of the five district schools, Meadow Drive, is located in Albertson. Mineola High School is in Garden City Park, while Jackson Avenue and Hampton Street Schools are in the village of Mineola.
