Bayside NY Real Estate & Homes for Sale

Bayside NY Homes for Sale

In a relatively large northeastern portion of the borough of Queens in New York City lies Bayside, an upper middle-class neighborhood that has been ranked one of the most expensive real estate markets in the country by CNN Business. Though the population in Bayside is rather dense, the area has ample inventory of detached homes. It has an aspect similar to that of other affluent communities in Queens, such as Douglaston, Little Neck, and Whitestone, with its free-standing suburban style homes.

Local Area Information

Bayside is served by the Port Washington Branch of the Long Island Rail Road via Bayside Station. It allowed for commuters to ride straight to Manhattan without the need for a transfer at Jamaica station, and it was for that reason the residential development of Bayside increased dramatically after World War II.

Bayside has had a colorful past but continues to be one of the safest and most affluent neighborhoods in the borough of Queens. Along with Douglaston–Little Neck, Bayside is served and protected by the 111th Precinct of the NYPD, which ranked 8th safest out of 69 patrol areas for per-capita crime in 2010. The rate of violent crimes per capita is the lowest of any area in New York City as of 2018.

Bayside is a combination of upscale and middle-class neighborhoods, including Bay Terrace, an affluent neighborhood where the privately-owned, gated estate community of Bayside Gables is located, Bayside Hills, an upscale subdivision in the south side of Bayside, and Oakland Gardens, a middle-class neighborhood that people refer to as “southern Bayside.” Based on the census, as of 2018, Bayside and Douglaston–Little Neck are considered to be high-income areas compared to the rest of the city, and are not gentrifying.

The Bayside, NY 11360, 11361, 11364 ZIP codes are part of the highest performing school district for grades K-9 in all of New York City, which is district 26 of the New York City Department of Education. It was ranked #18 by Niche in Most Diverse School Districts in New York. Some parts of the area are served by district 25.

Bayside is, statistically speaking, a more educated community than other American communities since 83.8% of its residents aged 25 and over have at least graduated from high school, while 35% have a bachelor’s degree or higher. Bayside is home to a branch of the City University of New York (CUNY) system, the Queensborough Community College.
