Bridgehampton is among the several wealthy communities in the summer resort known as the Hamptons in the Town of Southampton on the South Fork of Long Island’s famed East End. Some of the country’s priciest real estate properties are found in and around this area, which boasts glorious sandy beaches, scenic wildlife preserves, prolific vineyards, a bustling downtown and celebrated equestrian events that draw many enthusiasts from anywhere in the world.

Local Area Information

Bridgehampton is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in the southeast Town of Southampton, Suffolk County, on Long Island, New York. It shares land borders with Sag Harbor Village and Noyack on the north, Water Mill on the west and Sagaponack Village on the southeast, all of which, along with Bridgehampton, are part of a group of communities referred to as the “Hamptons” and favored by many affluent vacationers and tourists in the summer.

At 13 square miles as of the 2020 US Census, Bridgehampton was the largest CDP in Southampton Town and the 10th largest among Long Island’s 194 CDPs. It remains one of the areas with the smallest population of year-round residents, though the number swells several times over during the summer season. Tourists are drawn mostly to the magnificent white sand beaches along the Atlantic Ocean hugging its southern shore.

Residential districts in Bridgehampton are made up of some of the most lavish single-family homes in the country, with the fancier, more modern luxury houses usually lining the oceanfront. Many real estate properties are either summer residences or retirement homes of moneyed New York City dwellers who appreciate the stark contrast of hurried city living with the laid-back vibe of a quiet rural community while enjoying the common comforts of life and high-end amenities.

Properties range from the typical 4-bedroom homes to the most magnificent 8-bedroom residences, and many have pools, first-floor bedrooms and other features. There are also several rental properties and new constructions as well as historic properties in certain districts. The areas generally in the east and center use the Bridgehampton, NY 11932 ZIP code, while those in the west use 11976.

Bridgehampton’s downtown on Montauk Highway (Route 27) is clustered with a diversity of upscale stores, dining options, antiques shops, luxury boutiques and art galleries. Each year, equestrian riders and fans flock to the hamlet for the annual Hampton Classic horse show and the Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge.
