Brookville NY Homes for Sale

The village of Brookville is in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, on Long Island, New York. Incorporated in 1931, it is one of the affluent communities on Long Island’s North Shore known as the “Gold Coast”, which features expansive estates and stunning country homes built by some of its richest inhabitants beginning at the turn of the 20th century.

Local Area Information

Brookville is an incorporated village in Nassau County’s Town of Oyster Bay on Long Island, New York. It is part of the three villages frequently called the Brookvilles, along with Old Brookville to the northwest and Upper Brookville to the north. It is adjoined by three other incorporated villages, East Hills and Old Westbury on the west and Muttontown on the east, while the unincorporated neighborhood of Jericho lies to the south.

The settlement had various other names before the Civil War and was aptly renamed Brookville because of its brooks and springs. It is one of the earliest communities that shaped Long Island’s Gold Coast, an area on the North Shore known for its great wealth and luxurious mansions. The former woods and farmland became landscaped grounds on which extravagant estates were built by wealthy families attracted by the land’s beauty and accessibility to New York City.

Many of the grand 20th-century manors have either been demolished, divided into smaller lots and sold off, or transformed into learning institutions, parks or other tourist and cultural attractions. These include the Marjorie Merriweather Post mansion, which later became LIU’s C.W. Post campus and home to the notable Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, and the DuPont-Guest estate, which is now New York Institute of Technology’s de Seversky Conference Center.

Residential areas contain mostly single-family homes ranging from the more modest to 4-bedroom homes to more gracious dwellings with as many as a dozen or so bedrooms. Once ranked by Bloomberg Businessweek the richest town in America, Brookville is notable for its expansive collection of luxury homes, such as the ones at Broadhollow Estates.

A number of the homes include private pools, first-floor bedrooms and other features and amenities, while some command amazing views of golf course greens or are waterfront residences overlooking a lovely pond. Brookville’s flourishing real estate market also includes vacant lots, rental properties, new constructions and horse properties. Most areas use the 11545 ZIP code, while a small neighborhood near the de Seversky Mansion uses 11548.
