East Moriches is a waterfront community on the South Shore of Long Island, New York, in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County. It was a popular boating destination and the site of large estates prior to its revitalization as a middle-class suburban community and tourist destination.

East Moriches is an unincorporated hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. It is located in the southeast corner of Brookhaven Town in Suffolk County and is adjacent to the neighborhoods of Center Moriches to the west, Manorville to the north, and Eastport to the northeast. The rest is surrounded by the Moriches Bay waters.

Moriches is the general term that refers to the contiguous area south of Sunrise Highway (NY 27) extending from the head of Forge River to approximately five miles east. It is divided into the communities of Moriches, Center Moriches and East Moriches, each of which has a post office and a historic district. East Moriches uses primarily the 11940 ZIP code, while a small segment shares 11934 with Center Moriches.

The historic district in East Moriches is spread out along Montauk Highway, East Main Street, Evergreen Avenue and several roads near Terrell River and Harts Cove. It also includes the scenic Woodlawn Avenue, which features a number of well-manicured historic homes that span four centuries, with the oldest structure dating back to circa 1730. The styles vary and include bungalows, Colonials, Federal houses and Victorians, and there are houses under 10 years old.

Besides the charming historic homes, antiques stores and old-fashioned boutiques, East Moriches has contemporary single-family homes and other property types, including condos such as in the Villas on the Bay at East Moriches, which features waterfront homes with beautiful water views. There are also luxury homes, usually with a pool, several new constructions, rentals, accessory apartments, vacant lots, and subdivisions, such as Orchard Crossing.

The commercial district is clustered along Montauk Highway, a main thoroughfare, and a few businesses are also located along Frowein Road and Pine Street. The rest are waterfront establishments, one of which is the Atlantic Cove Marina, popularly called the “Crown Jewel of Brookhaven.” The marina is among the largest in the area and has one of the most up-to-date and complete facilities.

Beaches & Parks

Atlantic Avenue Park is a recreational facility owned and maintained by the Town of Brookhaven. Home of the Moriches Bay Little League, the park contains a baseball/softball field and some benches. There are also several slots for parking at the site. The park is located near the marinas on the southern end of Atlantic Avenue.

The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Park pays tribute to the local war veterans who have contributed their services to the country. Its facilities include a half court for basketball, picnic tables with benches, and swings. The rest is primarily a vast, typically well-maintained open field for a wide range of outdoor activities. It is located at the intersection of Montauk Highway and East Main Street.
