East Northport is an unincorporated neighborhood and census-designated place (CDP) encompassed in Suffolk County’s Town of Huntington on Long Island, New York. Its neighbors include Centerport and the village of Northport to the northwest, Fort Salonga to the northeast, Commack to the southeast, as well as Elwood, Dix Hills, and Greenlawn to the southwest.

The community began in 1656 when land was purchased from Chief Asharoken, the head of the American Indian tribe known as the Matinecocks, by the English colonists who wanted to increase their territory in the current Town of Huntington area. The modern-day East Northport was created by two distinct former communities, Larkfield and Clay Pitts.

Today, the area celebrates various festivals and events, such as the East Northport Festival, which features various forms of entertainment, rides, shows, and merchants right on the streets. There is also the annual family event called the St. Anthony of Padua Family Feast, and the East Northport Fireman’s Fair.

Beaches & Parks

One of the jewels in the Huntington Town park system, Veterans Park features the Boundless Playground, a skating facility, playing courts for basketball, handball, and volleyball, little league fields, synthetic turf and grass ball fields, picnic areas, trails, and two comfort stations.

The adjoining Knolls Park is an active and passive park with modern turf fields in the extreme southern section, for either competitive or casual leisure use. It has shorter trails for those interested in leisurely walks, and over nine miles of winding trails that connect with neighboring Meadowlark Park, which offers bike trails with challenging climbs that test even the most experienced mountain bikers but also reward the adventurous with fun and enjoyable rides.

The John J. Walsh Memorial Park offers a playground, two athletic fields, picnic tables and benches. It is right next to the East Northport Public Library on Larkfield Road, and is an ideal place to bring kids after a visit to the library.

Students in the area attend the schools of the Northport-East Northport Union Free School District, which has seven public schools. Four of the district schools—Northport High, East Northport Middle, Pulaski Road Elementary, and Fifth Avenue Elementary Schools—are located in the hamlet. Ocean Avenue Elementary is in the Village of Northport, while Northport Middle and Norwood Avenue Elementary Schools are geographically located in Fort Salonga.
