East Quogue NY Homes for Sale

East Quogue is a hamlet in the Town of Southampton, Long Island, New York. It is home to impressive bay beaches, sweeping meadows and pine barren forests as well as a walkable downtown with various locally-owned retail shops, boutiques and restaurants. Summer residences, B&Bs, hotels and inns are also among the typical offerings in this area, which is a year-round community that is also becoming one of the favored vacation getaways around the Hamptons region.

Local Area Information

East Quogue is an unincorporated neighborhood and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Southampton, Suffolk County, on the South Fork of the famed East End of Long Island, New York. It adjoins Hampton Bays on the northeast, Westhampton on the west, Quogue Village on the southwest and Flanders on the north. The coastal areas command captivating water views of Shinnecock Bay to the south and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

Along with the other communities west of the bay, East Quogue is technically not considered as part of the glamorous summer hotspot referred to as “the Hamptons,” though some do, perhaps because the area offers the same pristine white sand beaches that the East End is most famous for, minus the steep prices.

East Quogue includes a portion on the Westhampton barrier island to the south across the bay, about a mile and a half strip of land between Quogue Village to the west and the Hampton Ocean Resort to the east. This part is occupied by the Hot Dog Beach and the posh Dockers Waterside Marina and Restaurant, which is arguably the community’s most popular attraction offering a vibrant nightlife and waterfront dining with marvelous views.

Across the road from Dockers are the co-ops of Round Dune, a number of which are waterfront homes. Single-family homes predominantly constitute the rest of East Quogue’s residential zones, and while there are plenty of 4-bedroom homes, they vary from the most modest 2-bedroom to the most majestic 8-bedroom dwellings. The housing inventory also includes rental properties, new constructions and homes with pools, one or two bedrooms on first floor and other features.

The beautiful, meticulously landscaped Eagles Walk is one of the few 55+ communities in and around the Hamptons area. While the real estate in East Quogue is generally more affordable than in the easterly areas, it does flaunt some of the most imposing luxury residences and estates that rival, at times surpass, homes in the Hamptons. Much of the community uses the 11942 ZIP code, and some small regions use either 11946 or 11959.

Beaches & Parks

The Dwarf Pine Plains Preserve is a 788-acre globally rare ecosystem, one of only three that exist on the planet, consisting of pitch pines and scrub oak of about 3 to 6 feet (hence the name). The preserve features a rich diversity of animal species that inhabit this unique ecological community, and offers opportunities for hiking, hunting, trapping, and observing wildlife.

Pine barrens habitat also constitute the 272-acre Henry’s Hollow Pine Barrens State Forest north of Montauk Highway (Route 80) and west of Bellows Pond Road. Like in the Dwarf Pine Plains Preserve, activities offered in this state land include hiking, hunting, trapping, and wildlife observation.

Munn’s Pond County Park is in the general area of Henry’s Hollow Pine Barrens, and is equipped with an animal rehabilitation facility called the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center. The park allows educational trips to the rehabilitation center and nature walks around its ponds and throughout the surrounding pine barrens forest.

The 77-acre Pine Neck Nature Sanctuary is an oasis resembling a pine barrens habitat, and is a vital shelter for a broad array of migrating and nesting bird species. It is home to a 2.4-mile section of Southampton Town’s Bay to Bay Trail for hiking, bird watching, nature photography, and taking in the splendid sights of the Shinnecock Bay.

The Schools
