Other activities that may be enjoyed included camping and fishing/surf casting. The Sunken Meadow State Park is just a stone’s throw away from Callahans Beach.

Crab Meadow Beach is a public beach on Waterside Avenue that stretches along the shores of the Long Island Sound. Many types of water activities are allowed such as canoeing, fishing, and kayaking. Sandbars are often formed and create shallow pools of water that are ideal for small children, and there is also a large playground which offers a jungle-gym, basketball courts, see-saws, slides, and swings.

Fuchs Pond Preserve, formerly called Cranberry Hill, is a 21-acre park with half a mile of hiking trail on somewhat hilly terrain, and provides a good opportunity for young students to take educational nature hikes. The preserve has upland slope forest, an area of high plateau, freshwater marsh and five acres of spring-fed freshwater pond.

The Henry Ingraham Nature Preserve is a 27-acre park offering half a mile of looping trail on hilly terrain. Around the park are benches, built by Eagle Scouts, where visitors can rest, observe nature and get an awareness of almost all types of natural habitats in the Town of Huntington, since the preserve is near two others, the Fuchs Pond Preserve and Jerome Ambro Memorial Wetlands Preserve.

The Makamah Nature Preserve, formerly called Crab Meadow Park East Watershed, is a 160-acre Suffolk County park featuring a 2.6-mile trail, set on hilly terrain, for hiking, bird watching, and walking dogs on a leash. The preserve is a primary habitat for owls and woodpeckers, and as many as 94 other bird species and 12 mammal species have been found in and around the area, suggesting a healthy relationship between prey and predator.

Meadowlark Park has bike trails with challenging climbs that test even the most experienced mountain bikers, but also reward the adventurous with fun and enjoyable rides.
