Great Neck is an incorporated village in Nassau County’s Town of North Hempstead on the famed North Shore “Gold Coast” of Long Island, New York. It is bordered on the north, northwest and northeast by the village of Kings Point, with which it shares the ZIP code 11024, and on the south and southwest respectively by Great Neck Gardens and Saddle Rock Village, with which it shares 11023. Some small sections are in the 11021 ZIP code, as are its other southern neighbors Saddle Rock Estates and the villages of Great Neck Estates and Kensington.

The name Great Neck also refers to the entire peninsula on which the village is located, between Little Neck Bay and Manhasset Bay, on which writer F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife lived for a time and which became the inspiration for the “West Egg” location in his novel The Great Gatsby.

Beaches & Parks

Memorial Field is a 7.5-acre park and sports field on Fairview Avenue. Its facilities include a baseball/softball diamond, basketball and handball courts, 16 Har-Tru tennis courts, a soccer field, player’s lounge, playground, restrooms, benches and tables. There are maintenance and security personnel on site, as well as public Wi-Fi. The tennis courts open in the summer from 9 AM until dark, depending on the weather. Half the courts close around the 20th of November, and the rest close around the 15th of December.

The Parkwood Sports Complex features several sub-facilities: the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink, which offers skating classes, rentals, and parties; the Parkwood Family Aquatic Center, which features an Olympic-size pool, a Lazy River, and kiddie pools; the Parkwood Tennis Center, which has indoor and outdoor tennis courts; and the Recreation Center, offering a variety of amenities for sports and other recreational activities.

The Schools

The village is in the Great Neck Union Free School District, which has ten public schools. Four of the district schools—Village School, John L. Miller Great Neck North High, Richard S. Sherman Great Neck North Middle, and Elizabeth M. Baker Elementary Schools—are located in the village. Saddle Rock Elementary School is in Saddle Rock Village, Parkville School is in North New Hyde Park, John F. Kennedy Elementary School is in Kings Point Village, and the rest are in Lake Success Village.

The district also includes an Adult Learning Center on Clover Drive in the Village of Great Neck Estates.
