Greenvale NY Homes for Sale

Greenvale is a neighborhood that bestrides the Towns of North Hempstead and Oyster Bay, which are both in Nassau County, Long Island, New York. Though relatively small, the hamlet bristles with prime shopping and dining destinations, and is synonymous with convenience for the area’s train station and accessibility to and from Long Island’s major thoroughfares.

Local Area Information

Greenvale is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) along the North Hempstead-Oyster Bay Town line in Nassau County on western Long Island, New York. With an area of a quarter of a square mile, all land, it is the ninth smallest among the 194 CDPs on all of Long Island in terms of land area, and the fifth least populous among the 67 CDPs in Nassau County as of the 2020 census.

The area is bordered by three villages: Roslyn Harbor on the north and west, East Hills on the south and southeast, as well as Old Brookville on the northeast, which is in the Town of Oyster Bay. Along with the first two, and five other neighboring hamlets and villages in the Town of North Hempstead, Greenvale is regarded as part of the Greater Roslyn community, which is anchored by Roslyn Village and often referred to by many as “The Roslyns.”

Greenvale’s residential zones are made up largely of single-family homes, including rental houses and some of the most remarkable luxury residences, though there are also a lot of two-family dwellings and a small number of multifamily housing sites with no more than five units. While many of the homes predate World War II, the residential area east of the historic Roslyn Cemetery was developed later in the 1940s and 1950s.

The Greenvale, NY 11548 ZIP code is also used as a postal address by some regions in the adjoining villages of Brookville and Old Brookville, including the Long Island University (LIU) Post campus located in the former. A walkable suburban community, Greenvale has a bustling commercial center that serves not only the area but also many neighboring hamlets and villages.

The neighborhood is roughly 20 miles east of Manhattan, New York City. It is served by the Greenvale Station via the Long Island Rail Road’s Oyster Bay Branch, a convenient stop for commuters to and from the LIU Post and the New York Institute of Technology campuses. Driving to or from the city takes about 56 minutes to an hour and five minutes via the Long Island Expressway.
