Hauppauge NY Homes for Sale

Hauppauge is a community shared by Suffolk County’s townships of Smithtown and Islip on Long Island, New York. Residents claim that this is one of the best location options particularly for new entrepreneurs beginning with ambitious plans, and is ideal for a home life of excellence as well as an inspiring environment for trade and business.

Local Area Information

Hauppauge is an unincorporated neighborhood and census-designated place (CDP) split by the SmithtownIslip Town line in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. It lies between the hamlets of Smithtown, Commack, Brentwood, Central Islip, Ronkonkoma, and Nesconset, as well as the village of Islandia.

The community had a small population of over 500 in 1930 and grew significantly when 1,100 acres of land were cleared to put up the Hauppauge Industrial Park (HIA), the largest on Long Island and, according to some sources, the second largest in the country.

The HIA has more than 1,300 businesses and hires more than 55,000 Long Islanders. Tax revenue from these companies contribute to the Hauppauge School District’s budget. For about half a century, it was home to a radio communication facility, which was commemorated in the area by naming a road Wireless Boulevard after it closed.

Many single-family homes in Hauppauge were developed in the mid-20th century. Some new constructions are larger and consequently more expensive, as are the luxury houses with a pool on spacious lots. There are also condos, co-ops, rentals, and gated communities, such as the private townhouse community of Hidden Ponds and The Hamlet at Wind Watch Golf Club. Such communities feature waterfront properties with scenic views of a pond. Most addresses use the Hauppauge, NY 11788 ZIP code, while the rest use the 11787 ZIP code.

The Long Island Rail Road’s Smithtown Station to the north and Central Islip Station to the south serve Hauppauge respectively via the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma Branches. Manhattan, approximately 47 miles west in New York City, can be reached by car in about an hour and 11 minutes to an hour and 23 minutes via the Northern State Parkway or Long Island Expressway. The JFK International Airport and LaGuardia Airport in Queens are about a 45-minute to an hour drive.
