Hewlett Neck NY Homes for Sale

Hewlett Neck is a relatively small upper-class village in Nassau County’s Town of Hempstead, on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. Along with the other Hewlett villages, it is known for having some of Long Island’s most beautiful, impressive homes, staying true to its origins as a coveted and exclusive enclave for opulent families.

Local Area Information

Hewlett Neck is an incorporated village in the southwest Town of Hempstead, a township in Nassau County, on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. It constitutes a group of communities collectively known as the Hewletts, which also consists of Hewlett and the villages of Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor, and Woodsburgh. The Hewletts form part of an unofficial grouping of communities referred to as the Five Towns, along with the villages of Lawrence and Cedarhurst, as well as Woodmere and Inwood.

The community began as a segment of Woodmere that was incorporated as the village of Hewlett Neck in 1927. Like the rest of the Hewletts, it is named in honor of one of the area’s first settlers, the large and prominent Hewlett family whose patriarch was George Hewlett, who later owned much of the land that we know today as the Five Towns on the Rockaway peninsula.

In the 2020 U.S. Census, at 0.19 square miles, excluding water, Hewlett Neck was the smallest of the Five Towns communities, and the third smallest among the villages in the Town of Hempstead, next to South Floral Park and Bellerose. It was also the seventh smallest among the 96 villages on all of Long Island in terms of land area.

The village has approximately 140 houses, mainly single-family homes, many of which are stately mansions on large lots that were former plantations, with some homes dating back to the American Revolution. A number of the luxury homes come with a pool, tennis court, or both, while those along the waterfront overlooking George’s Creek have private boat docks and breathtaking water vistas. Some houses are put on the market as rental properties. Unlike in the other Hewlett villages, the homes use the Hewlett Neck, NY 11598 ZIP code.

The area is roughly 20 miles southeast of Manhattan, New York City, and served by the Hewlett Station and Woodmere Station via the Long Island Rail Road’s Far Rockaway Branch. Traveling to or from the city by car takes about an hour and eight minutes to an hour and 35 minutes via the Grand Central Parkway or the Long Island Expressway.
