Hicksville NY Homes for Sale

Hicksville is a hamlet in the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County and is one of the most populous on Long Island, New York, probably for a good reason. Many home buyers are drawn to the area for its large variety of housing options, the convenient commute to and from the city and anywhere on Long Island as well as the shopping, dining and entertainment.

Local Area Information

Hicksville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) on the western boundary of the Town of Oyster Bay, which is among the three townships in Nassau County on Long Island, New York. Its neighbors include Jericho to the north, Syosset and Plainview to the northeast and Bethpage to the southeast. Lying respectively to the south and southwest are the Town of Hempstead’s Levittown and East Meadow and to the northwest is New Cassel in the Town of North Hempstead.

Hicksville’s growth began when Valentine Hicks, who would later become president of the Long Island Rail Road and for whom the neighborhood is named, established a train station in the hamlet that initially served as a depot for produce. A community slowly grew around this station and became an established business leader with a proper downtown “main street.” Due to the population boom after the war, the farms were converted into real estate developments, and the area became a lively suburb of New York City.

When the quaint downtown area was later torn down for rail and road improvements, the small-town, main-street feel was lost, and Hicksville became a significant transportation hub with hundreds of big businesses, both commercial and industrial. By the 21st century, the community had become the site of two retail giants, one of which was the only IKEA on Long Island, and over 13,000 houses, many of which were Capes, ranches and split-level single-family homes along with multifamily dwellings.

Houses include 4-bedroom homes or larger, plenty of which are rental properties or have first-floor bedrooms, private pools, legal accessory apartments and other features. There are also luxury homes on huge lots, new constructions and potential mother-daughter. Much of the hamlet uses the Hicksville, NY 11801 ZIP code, while some segments use either 11791 or 11590.

Hicksville has come a long way from its humble beginnings as an agricultural area to the vibrant hamlet it is today. Still, a number of revitalization and beautification initiatives were put in place to improve and renew the downtown area and unify the entire region.

Beaches & Parks

Abe Levitt Park is a notable athletic facility with two synthetic Little League fields and a baseball field complete with fenced-in dugouts, a batting cage, bullpen, and bleachers. It also has two playgrounds, a basketball court, concession, restroom, and parking.

Cantiague Park, one of Nassau County’s two major parks, was the first to offer an artificial skating rink and a pool. The rink has hosted Olympic gold medalists like Nancy Kerrigan, and provided a practice site for the New York Islanders. The swimming pool complex includes an Olympic-size pool, and has been voted the best outdoor swimming facility on Long Island by News12 Long Island viewers. Other amenities include basketball and tennis courts, a driving range, mini golf course, picnic area, as well as football, lacrosse, and soccer fields.

Cpl. Kevin T. Kolm Memorial Park, also known as Triangle Park, is a popular hangout for soccer lovers. Aside from the lighted soccer field, it also has a playground, food kiosks, and restrooms.

Hidden Park, as the name suggests, is a somewhat obscure little park behind residential homes in the triangular area formed by Hollins and Haverford Roads and Cambridge Drive. Its amenities include a baseball field and playground.

John Walker Memorial Park was renovated in 2022 to improve the old multi-purpose field for football, soccer and lacrosse, as well as add a new little league baseball diamond. The 3.9-acre Oyster Bay Town park also has playgrounds, restrooms, and a number of parking spaces.

The Levittown Parkway Pool is one of the nine community swimming pools included in the planned community built by William Levitt around 50 years ago. The pools and facilities are open only to residents of the Hempstead/Oyster Bay Joint Pool District.

The Schools
