Laurel Hollow NY Homes for Sale

Laurel Hollow is a village in the northeast Town of Oyster Bay, one of the three townships in Nassau County on western Long Island, New York. It is the site of the world-famous Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and features plenty of splendid harborfront homes with amazing water views and direct access to the Cold Spring Harbor and Long Island Sound.

Local Area Information

Laurel Hollow is an incorporated village in the Town of Oyster Bay on the west side of the Nassau-Suffolk County line on Long Island, New York. The beachfront community lies on the west bank of Cold Spring and Inner Harbors allowing for plenty of waterfront homes with private docks and spectacular water views. Easy access to the harbors provides opportunities for a wide array of water activities, including swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and sailing out to the Long Island Sound.

A significant northern portion of the village was once the sprawling estate of the distinguished artist Louis Comfort Tiffany. He named it Laurelton Hall as it was the former site of a bygone popular resort known as Hotel Laurelton. When tourists began flocking to the beaches, the community incorporated and adopted the name Laurelton, which was also the name of a Queens neighborhood. To avoid confusion, the village later changed it to Laurel Hollow, an apt name for its rolling terrain and abundant mountain laurels.

Once ranked eighth among USA’s wealthiest towns, Laurel Hollow remains one of Long Island’s most exclusive and opulent communities. The housing stock includes some of the grandest and most expensive homes as zoning requires a 2-acre lot minimum for each. For the price, residents get not only more room and a sense of peace and privacy but also the privilege of living and raising a family in a beautiful place with private beaches and docks, natural preserves, good schools and all the village has to offer.

Laurel Hollow is made up of mostly residential districts with single-family homes that vary from the more modest to larger 4-bedroom homes to more magnificent dwellings. The north side of Route 25A, or North Hempstead Turnpike, comprises the more majestic luxury homes and is much older than the south side, which has more affordable houses. There are many homes with pools, first-floor bedrooms and other features and amenities, and some are located in gated communities. Most neighborhoods use the 11791 ZIP code, while others use 11771.
