Levittown NY Homes for Sale

Levittown is a neighborhood in Nassau County’s Town of Hempstead on Long Island, New York. It is one of the earliest and largest pre-planned communities in the country, complete with shopping markets, parks and swimming pools and today boasts a diverse housing inventory with a wide range of single-family home architectural styles and features.

Local Area Information

Levittown is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County’s Town of Hempstead on Long Island, New York. Its neighbors include East Meadow to the west and North Wantagh to the south as well as the Town of Oyster Bay’s Hicksville, Bethpage, Plainedge and North Massapequa to the north, northeast, east and southeast, respectively.

Previously known as Jerusalem and Island Trees, the area was renamed Levittown after its developer, the real estate company of Levitt & Sons. The Levitts trailblazed the concept of mass production in the country and built affordable homes in Cape Cods and ranch styles to accommodate returning veterans after World War II. The project became highly successful and the community is largely considered as the model for postwar suburbia across the United States.

The Levittown, NY 11756 ZIP code, though, does not include all the Levitt homes and has boundaries different from that of the CDP. Today, about 80 percent of the original homogenous homes have been thoroughly modified and expanded. Local real estate agents now offer colonial-style houses and many other architectural designs of homes in the hamlet, which attracts a lot of young families and couples looking to start one.

The neighborhood is known for its affordable single-family homes, many of which are 4-bedroom homes and offer the convenience of having bedrooms on first floor. Levittown also has rental properties, and some homes have the potential to be converted into mother-daughter style living arrangements. For those seeking more luxurious options, there is a selection of luxury houses and new construction homes available.

For those looking to enjoy the warm summer months, there are also homes with pools in Levittown. In addition to single-family homes, the area has multifamily complexes and 55+ communities for those seeking an age-restricted living environment, along with the Assisted Living and Memory Care Community of Village Green for independent living. Overall, Levittown is a diverse community with something for everyone.
