Local Area Information

Manhasset Hills is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County’s Town of North Hempstead on Long Island, New York. It is surrounded by the villages of North Hills and Lake Success to the north and west, respectively, Searingtown to the northeast, Herricks to the east and North New Hyde Park to the south.

During its early years, Manhasset Hills quietly thrived on its primary industries of farming and trading and continued to flourish gradually and consistently throughout the 19th century. By the end of World War II, the area had become an elite enclave of New York City. The late 1950s saw the development of Cherrywood Homes with 88 split-level dwellings built on one of the last substantial undeveloped vacant lots in the area.

Much of Manhasset Hills is zoned for residential homes, which are all in the 11040 ZIP code. The hamlet’s 0.6-square-mile area is considered a prime location with its many attractive high-end luxury homes and is one of the most exclusive and prestigious neighborhoods on Long Island. With its proximity and easy access to New York City, the community offers the best of both worlds — fast-paced city life and idyllic suburban living.

Manhasset Hills contains mainly single-family homes, though there are also a few multifamily residences. There are plenty of 4-bedroom homes for large families and even more spacious dwellings with six or more bedrooms. Many houses feature first-floor bedrooms and private pools among other property highlights and amenities. The neighborhood also has potential mother-daughter homes, accessory apartments that can be offered as rentals or guest houses, and new constructions that include modern finishes and features.

Manhasset Hills is about 17 miles east of Manhattan and only 20 minutes from either JFK International or LaGuardia Airport in Queens. Residents have the convenience of major thoroughfares nearby, such as Northern State Parkway, Long Island Expressway and Hillside Avenue. Traveling by car to the city takes about 36 to 48 minutes.
