North Bellmore is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County’s Town of Hempstead on Long Island, New York. Its southern limit is marked by Beltagh Avenue separating it from the hamlet of Bellmore, with which it shares the 11710 ZIP code. They have so much else in common that the two are often regarded as a single community called the Bellmores. North Bellmore also shares boundaries with Merrick, North Merrick, Levittown, East Meadow, Wantagh and North Wantagh.

The Bellmores were initially settled by the English. A group made up of many Smith family members lived in a region referred to from the post-Civil War era through 1920 as Smithville South. That region is now known as North Bellmore. The beginning of rail service to Manhattan was followed by the first wave of development as business people and professionals arrived and built grand homes near the station. Following World War I, tract housing developed, a trend that repeated in the 1950s.

The Bellmore/Merrick Homeowners Association was founded in the mid-80s to fight illegal accessory apartments and limit development as well as serve the primarily single-family home area that also offers a number of condos and co-ops, such as Bellmore Garden Apartments in North Bellmore.

Beaches & Parks

The Bellmore-Merrick Roller Hockey Rink is open to all players from all areas of residence and skill levels. Youth skaters can sign up for the Little League Roller Hockey for a reasonable fee per season. The rink was established and paid for with funds raised by the neighborhood’s residents.

One of Hempstead Town’s recreational facilities, Jacob Gunther Field, is located in North Bellmore. It features a baseball field and is home to the North Bellmore North Merrick Little League. The Schools

Much of the hamlet is in the North Bellmore Union Free School District, which has five public elementary schools. Three of the district schools, John G. Dinkelmeyer, Newbridge Road and Saw Mill Road Schools, are located in the neighborhood. Martin Avenue School is in Bellmore, and Park Avenue School is in Merrick.

The elementary schools then feed into the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District for secondary education. The district has three public high schools, though students from the Bellmores attend only either John F. Kennedy or Wellington C. Mepham High School. The latter is also located in North Bellmore.

A small southwest section of the community is served by the North Merrick Union Free School District.
