North Massapequa NY Homes for Sale
North Massapequa is a neighborhood near the south shore of the Town of Oyster Bay, one of the townships in Nassau County on western Long Island, New York. Once a booming farming area known as Farm District, it developed into the suburban community it is today with many fine homes in a varied array of housing styles as well as lots of shopping and dining options.
Local Area Information
North Massapequa is an unincorporated neighborhood and census-designated place (CDP) in Nassau County’s Town of Oyster Bay on Long Island, New York. It is a landlocked area surrounded by South Farmingdale to the northeast, Plainedge to the north and the Town of Hempstead’s Levittown and North Wantagh to the northwest and southwest, respectively. To the south and southeast are the rest of “the Massapequas.”
The term Massapequas, which comes from a Native American word that means Great Waterland, generally refers to the Greater Massapequa area that encompasses the hamlets of Massapequa, North Massapequa and East Massapequa as well as the village tucked between them, Massapequa Park. They get their name from the large body of water that surrounds their south shore and forms a part of the Great South Bay.
Mostly single-family homes constitute the residential areas in the North Massapequa, NY 11758 ZIP code, which is also peppered with a lot of two- and three-family houses. The community, which is relatively newer compared to most Long Island towns, features some of the most charming homes in a variety of architectural styles, including many ranches and Colonials as well as some hi-ranches and capes.
North Massapequa’s main consumer corridor is North Broadway, which is lined with plenty of restaurants, retail stores and other businesses and services for the convenience of the residents. More shopping, dining and entertainment options are found elsewhere in the hamlet, such as along Hicksville Road and Jerusalem Avenue. Locals enjoy such privileges as exclusive access to the wealth of fantastic parks within the Massapequa Parks District.
North Massapequa is around 31 miles southeast of Manhattan, New York City, and served by the Massapequa Station via the Long Island Rail Road’s Babylon Branch. Traveling to or from the city by car takes about an hour and 22 minutes to an hour and 57 minutes via the Southern State Parkway, Northern State Parkway or Long Island Expressway.

Massapequa Preserve is a favorite place for locals to be around nature and hike, bike, fish, birdwatch, or take photos of marvelous wildlife in their natural habitat. Also named the Peter J. Schmitt Preserve, the 423-acre undeveloped property is Nassau County’s largest passive park, and deemed one of the most beautiful by locals.
Plainedge Park is a popular, relatively large athletic complex in North Massapequa. It houses the Brian Moore Athletic Center, and has baseball and football turf fields, a playground, restrooms, and a spacious parking area.
Scattered throughout the Massapequa area is a series of small neighborhood parks, including Massapequa M01, Bethpage B20, and Margaret Park, among many others. The parks primarily have grassy open fields and a playground, while some of the bigger ones have facilities for basketball, baseball, football, lacrosse, soccer, or softball.

Schwarting Elementary, and Eastplain Elementary — are located in the hamlet. The other two district schools are in Plainedge.
Much of the area’s eastern side is served by the Farmingdale Union Free School District, which has six public schools. The district’s Albany Avenue Elementary School is also located in the neighborhood.
