Local Area Information

Oceanside is an unincorporated neighborhood and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. It is bounded on the north by the village of Rockville Centre and on the northeast by Baldwin, with which it shares the 11510 ZIP code. The rest of it is surrounded by several waterways and bodies of water, such as Mill River to the west.

Originally called South Bay, the waterfront community became known as Christian Hook based on the religious affiliation of most of its colonists. It was eventually renamed “Oceanside” in 1918, though it was not actually on the ocean as the Island Park communities and the Long Beach barrier island separate it from the Atlantic Ocean to the south. With so many houses built over the years and especially during the post-war housing boom, the hamlet became more like Levittown, one of Long Island’s most populous neighborhoods.

The Oceanside, NY 11572 ZIP code is home to a wide variety of single-family homes offering something for every taste and budget, whether it be 4-bedroom homes or spacious waterfront residences with sweeping water views. Many of these homes feature desirable amenities, such as master bedrooms on the first floor and private pools.

Co-op living is also popular in the area, with options such as the Ocean Harbor Club and the gated community of Oceanside Cove, which offers a maintenance-free lifestyle and access to on-site amenities, such as swimming pools, tennis courts and a health club. Those looking for a condo will find a number of options at the Villas at Oceanside.

The community also offers a great selection of rentals and homes with the potential for a mother-daughter setup. New constructions, luxury properties and vacant lots are also available for those who want to build their own custom home. Oceanside is conveniently located around 22 miles southeast of Manhattan, New York City, making it a great option for those who want to live in a more suburban setting while still being close to the city.
