Ozone Park is a working- and middle-class neighborhood located in the southwestern portion of the borough of Queens in New York City. It is bordered by the neighborhoods of Woodhaven to the north, South Richmond Hill to the northeast, South Ozone Park to the southeast, Old Howard Beach and Lindenwood to the south, and Cypress Hills to the west. The area was named “Ozone Park” by its early developers to entice buyers into a park-like community with invigorating breezes blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean, at a time when ozone was inaccurately associated with clean, clear and refreshing ocean air with tonic and restorative properties and its harmful effects were not yet generally known. The area includes a small neighborhood known as “The Hole,” so named because the houses were built below grade and the ground level is 30 feet (9.1 m) lower than the surrounding area.

Ozone Park’s ethnically-diverse community was brought about by several waves of immigrant groups, one of which and among the largest are Italian-Americans. Many of the Italians were originally from East New York, Brooklyn. When the borough of Queens had not yet existed, Ozone Park was called “the Harlem of Brooklyn” because of the thriving Jewish and Italian communities in Harlem, Manhattan. Other ethnic groups that contribute to the social makeup are Latin-Americans or Hispanics, South Asians, West Indians, and a small percentage of African-Americans spread throughout the neighborhood. Ozone Park has several sub-neighborhoods and villages namely Centreville, Tudor Village, Albert Gardens, Balsam Village, Dumont Village, Greentree Condos, Kaybern Court, Liberty Heights, Magnolia Court, Newlyn Estates, Ozone Plaza, Park Village, and Sterling Manor. Tudor Village is an extremely small subsection located in the southwestern section of Ozone Park. It features suburban, tree-lined streets and its population consists of roughly six hundred residents who are mostly Italian-Americans. The village is home to Tudor Park, a recreational park featuring a baseball field, racquetball courts, a fountain, picnic area, and playground.

The neighborhood has had a number of notable residents including Cindy Lauper and Jack Kerouac, who wrote his defining novel On the Road in Ozone Park and was jokingly called “The Wizard of Ozone Park” by his friends.
