Plainview is an unincorporated hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, on the Nassau-Suffolk County line on Long Island, New York. It shares land borders with Syosset and Woodbury on the north, Bethpage on the south, Hicksville on the west, Old Bethpage on the southeast and Melville on the east, which is in the Town of Huntington in Suffolk County.
Residential areas comprise primarily single-family homes and some condos, including the luxury residences in the gated communities of Country Pointe Plainview and The Hamlet on Olde Oyster Bay, both of which offer waterfront homes with excellent vistas of a pond or lake. Like The Seasons at Plainview, Country Pointe is a 55+ community offering 2-bedroom condos with a basement, though the latter also includes homes with a garage.

The Town of Oyster Bay’s Borella Fields on Plainview Road is a 10.27-acre complex that features a soccer field, one regulation diamond, and two Little League diamonds.
The 77,000-square-meter Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Park on Washington Avenue is the community’s primary park, featuring a basketball and four handball courts, Little League and softball fields, a swimming pool with diving area, kiddie wading pool, picnic area with hibachi grills, playground, four lighted tennis courts, and hiking trails through its woods, which extend from the park to the commercial section and also to the smaller community parks in the residential areas of Pal Street.
Farther along Washington Avenue is the Manetto Hills Park, a nature preserve formerly known as the Shattuck Estate. The 138-acre property was almost developed in the 1970s but was left as a nature preserve through efforts of community activists.
The Schools
Most students in Plainview attend the schools of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District, which has seven schools, all of which are located in the community, except for Old Bethpage Elementary School, which is in the adjacent hamlet of Old Bethpage.
The rest of Plainview is served by either the Bethpage Union Free School District or the Syosset Central School District.
There are also several private schools located in Plainview, including the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County (HANC) and Miss Sue’s Nursery School and Summer Fun.
