Meaning “Little Quogue” in the American Indian language, Quiogue is an unincorporated neighborhood and census-designated place (CDP) in Suffolk County on Long Island, New York, and is one of the several beachfront areas in the Town of Southampton. It is nestled between Westhampton to the north, East Quogue to the northeast and the villages of Westhampton Beach and Quogue to the west and east, respectively. The southern segment fronts Quantuck Bay and offers amazing water vistas.

During its early years, Quiogue’s development into a lovely summer resort was encouraged by pleasant summer days and its accessibility to the beaches of the bays and the Atlantic Ocean. It became one of the popular retreats for affluent New York families looking to get away from the city and also grew as a year-round community. Despite its growth, the hamlet today retains the “small town” feel that initially drew the first inhabitants to this beach community.

With an area of 1.26 square miles in the 2020 US Census, Quiogue was the smallest CDP in Southampton Town and the fifth smallest among Suffolk County’s 127 CDPs. Lining its peaceful tree-lined avenues are residential areas consisting of predominantly single-family homes. Many of these, especially the waterfront properties enjoying breathtaking water views of the bay as well as exclusive beach and docking rights, are majestic mansions and luxury residences on large lots.

Quiogue’s houses vary from 1- to 4-bedroom homes with some that are nearly twice as large and include rentals, new constructions and dwellings with one or two bedrooms on first floor, private pools and other features and amenities. The community uses the 11978 ZIP code.

Quiogue has a number of commercial establishments along Montauk Highway, mostly car shops and services, but locals only have to drive a little beyond its western border to conveniently access the diversity of retail stores and dining options over in Westhampton Beach’s central business district.

Beaches & Parks

Just a five-minute drive or less in Quogue Village is the 305-acre Quogue Wildlife Refuge, a haven for a diverse mix of wildlife species. Its amenities include a seven-mile trail for exploring the park’s diverse habitats, the Outdoor Wildlife Complex, where permanently injured animals are cared for and can be visited, and the Charles Banks Belt Nature Center, which offers captivating views of nature, live animals, wildlife exhibits, and a nature library.

Rogers Beach on Dune Road in the Village of Westhampton Beach is only a 10-minute drive or less from Quiogue, and is a lifeguarded beach that contains a snack bar, deck, showers, restrooms, and plenty of parking slots.

The Surf Club of Quogue offers membership access to their lifeguarded beach on the Atlantic Ocean and facilities, such as an Olympic-size pool, infant play area, a wading pool, recreation room, bathhouse, beach umbrellas, and ample parking spaces.
