Sea Cliff, NY Homes for Sale
The coastal village of Sea Cliff is in Nassau County’s Town of Oyster Bay on Long Island, New York. Overlooking the Long Island Sound, the tight-knit, laid-back community is known for its unique bevy of historic Victorian-style homes.
Local Area Information
Sea Cliff is a village incorporated in 1883 and located in the northwestern corner of the Town of Oyster Bay, one of Nassau County’s three townships, along the North Shore of Long Island, New York. It is tucked between the City of Glen Cove to the north, Glen Head to the southeast, and Glenwood Landing to the south. Named for its location atop a 120-foot bluff, Sea Cliff offers spectacular views of Hempstead Harbor going out to Hempstead Bay and the Long Island Sound.
A beautiful, no-frills community, Sea Cliff became a resort destination in the 1920s for Russian immigrants, many of whom settled in the village and were later joined by other post-war refugees. Their architectural version of Gothic-style homes can be found generally along the narrow lanes north of Glen Avenue, beside newer constructions in Colonial and ranch styles.
The Sea Cliff, NY 11579 ZIP code’s residential districts are made up of about 1,500 residences, largely single-family homes with some two- or three-family houses, potential mother-daughter properties, and accessory apartments. A significant number of the village homes are Late Victorian-style dwellings that have been deemed “one of the best collections of late Victorian era architecture in Nassau County.” Many of these have made it to the National Register of Historic Places, along with other historic commercial and community service buildings.
Unlike many North Shore “Gold Coast” neighborhoods, Sea Cliff does not have a lot of luxury mansions nor posh gated communities, and plots of land are typically no larger than a half acre. Rental properties are also rare, though there are quaint multi-unit historic homes that were once hotels, with some that go as far back as 1880. Yet the village remains among the most coveted for its stunning waterfront homes with great water views, the easygoing lifestyle, friendly environment, and walkable town center.
The village is approximately 25 miles east of Manhattan, New York City, and served by the Sea Cliff Station via the Oyster Bay Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. Travel time to or from the city by car is about an hour and 24 minutes to an hour and 54 minutes via the Long Island Expressway.

Sea Cliff Beach is notable for its fine sand and amazing harbor vistas. It has a pavilion that comes with restrooms, first-aid, and showers, as well as boat racks for small vessels, and is protected by Red Cross-certified lifeguards.
Veterans’ Memorial Park has one of the most perfect locations as it sits atop the bluff and offers clear, breathtaking views of the harbor, Sound, and New York State shorelines. Also known as “Sunset Park” and “Hippie Park”, it serves as a venue for the weekly summer concerts named Sunset Serenades.
Punctuating the village’s close-knit residential areas are many other excellent green spaces, including Central Park, which has swings and other playground equipment, the 5-acre Clifton Park, Plaza Park, and Elm Park, which is also known as “Spooky Park” and holds theatrical plays. There is also Prospect Park, on which a famous hotel once stood, and Roslyn Park, which has junior baseball and softball fields and is a popular site for social gatherings, picnics, and the farmer’s market.
