South Farmingdale is in the Town of Oyster Bay, a township in Nassau County. It is among the smaller communities on Long Island, New York, yet offers plenty of shops, delis, recreational parks, and all the conveniences of suburban living.

South Farmingdale is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in the southeastern portion of the Town of Oyster Bay, along the western side of the Nassau-Suffolk County line on Long Island, New York. The landlocked hamlet shares borders with Farmingdale Village to the north, Plainedge to the northwest, North Massapequa to the southwest, as well as Massapequa Park Village and East Massapequa to the south. Suffolk County’s East Farmingdale and North Amityville lie to the northeast and southeast, respectively.
Named for its geographic southerly direction from Farmingdale Village, South Farmingdale is anchored by and often regarded as part of the village, with which it shares several community resources, such as the post office, school district, library district, and the 11735 ZIP code. The triangular area between West, North, and East Drives uses mainly the 11758 ZIP code, and shares a fire district with North Massapequa. The rest is served by the South Farmingdale Fire Department.
Residential districts in the South Farmingdale, NY 11735 and 11758 ZIP codes comprise mostly single-family homes, though there are also plenty of two- and three-family houses and a few multifamily properties. These include a small number of rental apartments and the Farmingdale Villas, a charming, park-like 55+ community in the outskirts of the hamlet. For gated neighborhoods, though, the best course would be up toward the North Shore communities, where many of the luxury homes on big lots and the waterfront properties lie.
South Farmingdale is roughly 32 miles east of Manhattan, New York City, and served by the Farmingdale Station via the Long Island Rail Road’s Ronkonkoma Branch on the north, and Massapequa Park Station via the Babylon Branch on the south. Traveling to or from the city by car takes about an hour and 16 minutes to an hour and 21 minutes via the Long Island Expressway or Southern State Parkway.

The Captain Kathy Mazza Memorial Park is a small neighborhood recreational facility with a soccer field and playground. There is also a lovely heart-shaped memorial for the fallen Port Authority officers on 9/11.
Dorset Park, also designated as Farmingdale F03, is another neighborhood park located on a cul-de-sac on Dorset Lane. Its amenities include a basketball court and playground with slides, swings, and park benches.
The Ellsworth W. Allen Town Park stands out in size and amenities, as it has baseball, softball, and t-ball turf fields, as well as a multipurpose turf field for football, soccer, and lacrosse. It also has basketball, bocce ball, and tennis courts, as well as batting cages and spray pads.
Other neighborhood parks in South Farmingdale include Lincoln Street Park, Washington Street Park (Farmingdale F 7), Meadowwood Field Park (Farmingdale F 6), which has a softball field, and the Lt. Howitt Middle and Northside Elementary Schools are in Farmingdale Village, Albany Avenue Elementary School is in North Massapequa, and Saltzman East Memorial Elementary School is in East Farmingdale.
