Valley Stream is an incorporated village in Nassau County’s Town of Hempstead on western Long Island, New York, on the Nassau-Queens border. It is bounded by the villages of Malverne and Lynbrook on the east, North Valley Stream on the north and South Valley Stream, Woodmere and Hewlett on the south. It shares the ZIP code 11580 with a large area of North Valley Stream and 11581 with much of North Woodmere. It is bounded on the west by the neighborhood of Rosedale in the borough of Queens.

Named after the hills and valleys in the north and the streams that flowed toward the tidal wetlands in the south, Valley Stream was officially named the best place to live on Long Island by Money Magazine in 2017. The area referred to as Valley Stream, though, consists of Valley Stream Village, North Valley Stream, South Valley Stream and the communities of Mill Brook and Gibson, the portion generally south of Dubois Avenue and Munro Boulevard.

Valley Stream State Park is a notable picnic facility with fireplaces, grills, playgrounds, ballfields, nature trails and a half-mile walking course and offers opportunities for volleyball, basketball, horseshoe, biking, and snowshoeing/cross-country skiing.

The village Parks Department maintains a collection of recreational facilities that include Barrett Park, Arlington Park, Kay Everson Park, Firefighters Memorial Plaza and the trail at A.J. Hendrickson Park, which is also the site of the Valley Stream Pool. Residents with furry friends enjoy the Valley Stream Dog Park as well.

Another notable recreational site in the village is Edward W. Cahill Memorial Park, a largely passive nature park featuring the historic landmark of Mill Pond located at the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and Mill Road.
