Wainscott is located in the Town of East Hampton on the famed East End of Long Island, New York, in Suffolk County. Wainscott is an unincorporated neighborhood and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of East Hampton on the South Fork of Long Island, New York’s prestigious East End in Suffolk County. It sits on the Southampton-East Hampton Town line, and its neighbors include Northwest Harbor, East Hampton North and East Hampton Village to the east as well as Southampton Town’s Bridgehampton and Sagaponack Village to the west. The village of Sag Harbor, which is shared by the two townships, lies to the north.

The area’s name comes from the village of Wainscott in Kent, England, from where most of East Hampton’s early settlers came. The coastline of nearly a mile on the south faces the spectacular sweep of the Atlantic Ocean, while the southeastern shore is hugged by the waters of the prominent Georgica Pond, which, along with Wainscott Pond, the surrounding farmland and the ocean shore, is a component of the East Hampton Scenic Area of Statewide Significance (SASS).

Surrounding the ponds is a mansion district with estates and luxury homes that also make up the SASS. West of Georgica Pond is the 100-acre exclusive subdivision of the Georgica Association, including its most famous house, the Kilkare Estate. The 1880 beach house was featured in the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Besides the statelier single-family homes, Wainscott also has smaller yet equally fine 4-bedroom homes and more modest dwellings. A number of the homes are new constructions and may feature first-floor bedrooms and private pools among other architectural highlights and amenities. Besides inns and motels, there are also rental properties, most of which fetch a premium on the market.

The neighborhood is home to the East Hampton Airport. There is no walkable main street, though it has a small collection of stores, restaurants, inns and other businesses along Montauk Highway and around the airport. Beaches & Parks

A couple of East Hampton Town’s beaches are located in the community: Beach Lane, or Wainscott Beach, and Town Line Beach, both of which are open all year round. The beaches do not include lifeguard protection and prohibit swimming but offer vehicular beach access.

The hamlet also has at least two Town parks. Stephen Hands Path Park features athletic facilities, among which are two multipurpose ballfields, two volleyball courts and a walking/jogging track. It also has a playground and restrooms. The Wainscott Green, Rick Del Maestro Memorial Park offers pedestrians a lovely sitting and walking area and an attractive gateway to the business district.
