About The Town of Southampton…
Southampton is a township in Suffolk County located in part on the South Fork of Long Island, New York’s fabled East End. It is surrounded by the townships of Brookhaven to the west, Riverhead to the northwest and East Hampton to the east. It is bordered by the Peconic River and several bays — Flanders, Great Peconic, Little Peconic and Noyack — on the north and the Atlantic Ocean on the south, all offering remarkable water views and a lot of opportunities for swimming, sailing and other aquatic recreational activities.
The Town comprises seven incorporated villages and 16 unincorporated communities or hamlets, many of which are affluent neighborhoods that make up the area collectively and more prominently known as the Hamptons, where many wealthy and influential families reside or vacation. The Hamptons is popular for its pristine beaches and fancy summer resorts and is drawing tourists by the thousands, especially during the warmer months. The Town includes a village also called Southampton, the Hamptons’ largest and oldest neighborhood.
With a total area of 295.6 square miles, Southampton encompasses over 50 percent of water and includes the outer barrier island of Westhampton Island. Also within the Town’s limits is the village of Sagaponack with the ZIP code 11962, named the most expensive ZIP code in the US by Business Insider in 2016.
Southampton offers a great variety of real estate options, such as single-family homes, condos, co-ops and multifamily residences. It features some of the most expensive and largest luxury properties as well as a wealth of waterfront homes that command splendid water views. There are many homes with pools, master bedrooms on first floor, accessory apartments and other features.
There are a number of 4-bedroom homes with some that are twice as large along with rentals, new constructions, vacant lots, horse properties and potential mother-daughter. Plenty of homes are located in private gated communities, such as Encore Atlantic Shores in Eastport and Westhampton Pines in Westhampton, both of which are 55+ communities offering 2-bedroom condos, 3-bedroom condos with a basement and homes with a garage. Some districts feature historic properties.
